MANAGEMENT

"Initiatives with excellent change management are 6 times more likely to meet or exceed objectives..."

(Prosci Best Practices in Change Management - 11th Edition)

WHAT IS CHANGE MANAGEMENT?

The only constant is change, yet change is often uncomfortable and difficult to manage. Intrinsically, humans are resistant to change. We often like how things are and build habits around how to perform certain actions in our personal and professional lives. When something threatens these habits, whether it is a specific project, a big organizational change, or a simple change in routine, we as humans often resist the change and get defensive.
That is where the discipline of Change Management comes in.

"Change Management guides how we prepare, equip and support individuals and groups to successfully adopt change in order to drive organizational success and outcomes." - Prosci

Using a change management structured approach ensures impacted individuals are educated on 'the why' and 'the what' of change, are supported in their shift from their 'current state' to their new 'future state', and are included throughout the process and aware of the change to avoid resistance.

HOW ARE CHANGE AND CULTURE RELATED?

When change management is not properly executed, your organizations' culture can be greatly impacted. People do not like being surprised or uninformed. Studies have shown that the two main reasons employees and other stakeholders resist change include:Change GraphicManaging change in an organization to ensure its' people understand the need for and value of the change help create a positive culture around change is key. Without understanding and properly executing on these two integral pieces, change will be perceived as challenging and difficult internally. Therefore, executing change in an organization is most effective when people are informed early on and are supported throughout. To do this correctly, impacted groups and individuals across the organization must be identified, managed and supported throughout the lifecycle of change (planning to sustainment).
